October 2017 | Spiced Pumpkin | KCK Soapery

Although the weather is still undecided, we are officially in the Autumn season. This batch is scented with "Spiced Pumpkin", described as fall spices blended with amber.

My daughter said "it smells sooooo yummy".

Coconut oil, Olive oil, Rice Bran oil, Palm oil, Mango butter, and Castor oil.

Colors used were titanium dioxide for the white and I mixed brown, red and yellow for the pumpkin color.  The fragrance oil contains vanillin so the soap will eventually morph to more brown in color.  The white batter was not scented so it will stay white.

Divided the soap batter into two, white for piping and red brown for the main soap.

Poured a layer of pumpkin.

Sifted a layer of Hershey's cocoa powder.

Covered the cocoa powder with another layer of pumpkin then sifted a layer of activated charcoal.

Black activated charcoal layer.

Covered the black with another layer of pumpkin.

Piped middle line of white.

Second line of piped white.

Third line.

Piped the rest of the white batter.

Out of the mold.  Showing the activated charcoal and cocoa powder line.

I love how the piped white soap batter behaved and stayed where they should be.

Hope you enjoy these spiced pumpkin soap.

Thank you for dropping by!

September 2017 | Gingered Bergamot | KCK Soapery

Attempted another butterfly swirl.

This batch needed a little more imagination to visually see the butterflies.

By placing the ends of the soap side by side, you get to see some sort of butterfly silhouette.

As pictured above, my butterfly was a no show at first. After watching other soapers' pictures I noticed that most of them took pictures after placing the bottoms of the soap together.

Scented with "Gingered Bergamot" described to be citrusy notes of bergamot and freshly ground ginger, sandalwood, cedar, Indian patchouli, and sweet basil.

Oils used were Coconut oil, Olive oil, Rice Bran oil, Palm oil and Castor oil.  Butters were Mango butter, and Shea butter.
This batch was swirled by a tool I made from drain pipes with a straw as seen in the picture above on top of the white mold.

Colors used were white (titanium dioxide), yellow and green mica.

Poured most of the white.

Made a green line.

Yellow above the green.

Green batter on top of the yellow.

With the straw on a drain cleaner tool, I tried to make a butterfly swirl. As seen in the finished picture above, I ended up pushing the colors down instead of swirling them.

Above picture was taken after the swirling.

Covered the swirl with another layer of white and drizzled leftover yellow and green on top. The batter was hardening so I was in a hurry, I forgot to take picture of the drizzled yellow and green.

Swirled the top in a figure of 8 pattern.

Off the mold.

And it's cut!

Happy Soaping!

September 2017 | Camouflage | KCK Soapery

The hubby is getting low on his camouflage soap. So here is another batch to make sure he does not run out of his supply!

Coconut oil, Olive oil, Rice Bran oil, Palm oil, Mango butter, and Castor oil.

Adding lye (sodium hydroxide or others call it alkali).  Lye is the agent added to the oils and butters to make saponification possible. Without lye, there is no soap to be made.
Others do use melt and pour soap (I use it too for design purposes).  Some don't use lye, instead, they melt the pre-made soap, add colorants, fragrance and pour it on a mold then call the soap "no lye soap".

Look at the texture of the oils and butters as it emulsifies. I love this part of soap making. It just feels like making cake batter.

Poured the above soap batter into four containers with green, brown, black and white. Activated charcoal for black, titanium dioxide for white and green and brown mica.

Dropping the colors alternately by spoonfuls.

My nine year old asked to helped and she did most of the spoon dropping of the colored batter into the mold.

This is one design I always have in stock. I don't want to let my number one customer run out of his supply.

Thanks for stopping by!

September 2017 | Satsuma | KCK Soapery

Scented with "Satsuma" fragrance oil which is described to be a burst of mandarin orange.

Colors used were titanium dioxide for white, a mixture of red and yellow mica for orange and green mica.  Titanium Dioxide is a natural whitening agent found in almost anything white.  Micas are use in cosmetics.

Blending lye with Coconut oil, Olive oil, Rice Bran oil, Palm oil, Mango butter, and Castor oil.

Main batter was colored white.

Green was dropped in to the pot at 4 different places of the white.

Gave the pot a little swirl.

Poured the green and white swirl into the mold.

Made lines of orange and green on top.

Drew lines from one end to the other using chopstick.

I like the way wet soap looks.

Off the mold.

This is how soaping is when everything turned out as expected.

Happy Soaping everyone!
